Creamy Cold Brew Iced Butter Coffee

If you’re looking to get in a long lasting, but satisfying caffeine fix, this creamy cold brew butter coffee is your answer. The recipe for butter coffee is traditionally served hot, but this iced coffee variation combines coconut oil and vanilla ghee, along with the Ancient Nutrition Cold Brew Keto Elixir, to give you a dose of long-lasting energy without the sugar crash. This Cold Brew Elixir contains a blend of adaptogens—ashwagandha, reishi and chaga—to provide some much needed defense against stress, anxiety, and a much needed boost for mental clarity and concentration! Plus, ghee is high in omega 3s and vitamins A, D, E & K!

Butter coffee origin

While Bulletproof Coffee and the popularity of the Keto diet is often credited, butter coffee actually originated in Ethiopia during the 9th century. Ethiopians roasted their beans and mixed them with ghee, allowing them to create easy to carry caffeine balls.

Why is butter better than cream in a recipe?

The science behind butter coffee is that fat helps to slow digestion, meaning that the caffeine in coffee is absorbed slower, which benefits the drinker by receiving longer-lasting energy. Butter is typically much higher in fat content (80%) than cream (10%) and far less likely to contain added sugars.

Tips on Making Butter Coffee

The Ancient Nutrition Cold Brew already contains a dash of collagen peptides, but we like to add another scoop to give it more protein, as well as the added benefit to hair, skin and nails! Of course, if you prefer to use MCT oil instead of coconut, feel free to play around with what flavors work best for you. You can serve this coffee hot or cold, but adding the coconut oil + ghee will give it that frothy consistency and an added dose of fat.

If you don’t have a blender: You can easily use a hand emulsifier or coffee frother to whisk the ghee and oil together into the coffee.
