What is Spring Cleaning?
Historically multiple cultures and religions have used the change of seasons as inspiration to do some extra cleaning. Whether for symbolic reasons or to prepare for an upcoming holiday, people all around the world have taken part in house cleaning activities for centuries.
Beyond cultural and religious reasoning, spring cleaning is a great motivator to shake up your life and assess what you want to bring into the new season and what you want to leave behind. Animals are coming out of hibernation, the leaves are changing color, and flowers are sprouting. The world outside your window is going through its own version of spring transformation, so why not mimic this evolution within your home?
Spring cleaning can happen any time of the year, but a special magic is added to the task when it’s done at this time. So, grab your supplies, round up your clutter, and get to work. Don’t worry, our checklist will help make the process a lot less daunting than if you were starting from scratch.

All Rooms
Some house cleaning activities are universal for every room. Grab the necessary cleaning items you need for each task and get to work making your house a spotless sanctuary!
Dusting. Make sure to dust your bookshelves, ceiling fans, lights, and any other items and surfaces that tend to gather dust.
Windows. Clean any windows for a spotless shine and make sure to go all around the window tracks.
Vacuum. Vacuum up the floor and any curtains that may contain hidden dust and grime.
Change Batteries. Test your smoke detectors to make sure they all work and change the batteries of any appliances that have gone dead.
Disinfect. Finish each room by disinfecting parts of the room that are often touched, such as doorknobs, handles, and light switches.
Declutter. Go through everything in each room and make sure each item serves a purpose. You don’t have to become a minimalist, but make sure you like and use each item in the room.
Replace Air Filters. If you have a pet, your air filters may need to be replaced. If you don’t yet have an air purifier, consider getting one. It’ll help with those spring allergies.
Living Room
The living room is the heart of the house. Company gathers here to talk, relax, and entertain. It’s important this space is clean to match the good vibes you’ll have in it.
Vacuum Seats. Remove the cushions on your couch, love seats, and other seating areas and vacuum the crevices. Dust, dirt, and random items find their way into these spots, so it’s important to keep them clean.
Move Furniture. Move the furniture and clean under it. The dirt might be “out of sight, out of mind,” but you’ll feel much better once you know your living room is completely clean.
Reorganize. You spend a ton of time relaxing in the living room, so it’s important that everything runs smoothly. Reorganizing the space and giving every item a designated space to belong can make the room neater and cleaning up easier.
Bathrooms
The bathroom is a breeding ground for germs. It’s important to clean this space regularly and especially important to do a full spring deep-clean to keep the space spotless.
Clean Toilet. The dreaded toilet clean. It can be a pain, but must be done. Use the toilet brush we’ve listed above for an easy and effortless clean.
Clean Mirrors. Your mirrors can gather fingerprints, water marks, and pesky film that makes it difficult to even use the mirror for its intended purpose.
Discard Expired Products. Makeup, skincare, and other every day self-care products have an expiration date, just like your food. You wouldn’t eat year old bread, so don’t wear products that have past their expiration date.
Clean the Shower and Bath. These items help you stay clean, but you also have to help keep them clean. Also, don’t forget to clean your shower curtain and floor mats.
Organize Shelves. We can tend to throw items on our bathroom shelves and in drawers, just to forget about them. Comb through each drawer and shelf and assess what you want and how you can display it.
Bedrooms
A messy, dirty bedroom won’t aid in a good night’s sleep. Keep this space bright and new with deep cleaning and smart organizing.
Organize and Declutter Clothes. Most of us are guilty of hanging onto clothing long after its last wear. Any clothes that don’t fit or you don’t wear should be given away.
Organize Your Closet. Once you’ve rid your closet of clothes you no longer wear, make space for the new. This can mean adding drawers, changing your hangers to a uniform style, and overall, making the space work for you.
Wash and Replace Bedding. Wash all of your bedroom linens and replace any sheets or pillow covering that have holes or rips in them. You deserve it.
Flip or Rotate Your Mattress. Sleeping in the same or similar position every night can create weird dents and curves to your mattress. Extend the life of it by flipping or rotating it. Spring is the perfect time to accomplish this task.
Miscellaneous (Closets, Offices, Garages, Etc.)
The random spots in your house deserve some love, too. From miscellaneous closets, drawers, offices, garages and more, these are some cleaning tips and tricks.
Clean Your Keyboard. Little dust particles settle between your keys and germs live on the surface all over your keyboard. Clean it with disinfectant wipes and get into the small spaces with canned air.
Pressure Wash Outside. Rent a pressure washer to thoroughly clean the floorboards of your deck and the furniture outside.
Clean Lint Traps. Do a deep cleaning of the lint traps in your dryer and washer. This will keep your machines running smoothly and doing what they do best—clean.
Disinfect Electronics. Your electronics build up germs from touching them often. Take this time to disinfect your phone, remotes, gaming consoles, computer mouse, and any other items you touch fairly regularly.
