We’re big fans of the traditional bourbon Old Fashioned recipe around here, but our bar cart isn’t always stocked with the necessary ingredients. This simple cocktail can be made with your choice of bourbon, whiskey or gin. The sweet mash is a fruity and refreshing take on traditional bourbon or whiskey cocktails by incorporating seasonal fruit (such as raspberries or blackberries!) with fresh springs of mint. You can top it off with the carbonated beverage of your choice, such as soda water, although we prefer the mineral water taste of Topo Chico for a low-calorie cocktail. If you prefer something sweeter, simply sub out the soda water for Sprite or 7-Up.
Since the flavors are so light and refreshing, this recipe makes one of our favorite whiskey cocktails for summer. Plus, it’s a quick and easy recipe to shake up with ingredients that you likely already have in your fridge!
