6 Ways To Get Your Life Together Before The Holidays

The start of a new year is typically associated with getting organized, but the beginning of a new season can be just as great of a time for a fresh start to get your life together. Fall signals the end of summer days, and kickstarts the soon-to-be hectic holiday season — which means it’s the perfect time to get organized.

6 Organization Tips to Try Before The Year Ends

Prepping for the months ahead will reduce stress, save time and make sure you’re going into the coziest months of the year clutter-free. Here’s a few tips and tricks to help you get organized this fall.

Clean Out Your Closet

Goodbye shorts, tank tops and humidity. Hello fall knits, boots and crisp autumn air! The return of cold weather means it’s time to transition your wardrobe. Start by taking out all of your summer attire from the closet and going through it. Get rid of anything you didn’t wear this season and donate or sell it. This can be tricky because you think you might wear something next year — but if that dress didn’t see the summertime sun this year, it probably won’t next year, either.

Next, pull out all of your fall pieces—sweaters, cardigans, jeans, boots. Organize your closet and dresser however is most functional for you, but I recommend at least getting matching hangers — this will make your closet look more put together, which will most likely make you feel like you’ve got your life together as well.

Tip: Try velvet hangers: they look great, keep your clothes from sliding off and save space.

Simplify Your Morning Routine

A good morning routine can pave the way for a smooth, productive day — so a great way to live a more clutter-free, organized life is to simplify your mornings. To avoid feeling overwhelmed in the morning, start your morning routine the night before. Prep your breakfast or lunch for the next day if you’ll be on the go or in the office. Pick out your work outfit or exercise clothes the night before and lay them out for easy access. Pack your bag with all of the essentials that you’ll need for the day.

By planning ahead the night before, your mornings will be more enjoyable and you’ll feel less in a rush. You might even have some extra time to start your day with an activity you love, like yoga, reading or going on a walk. Planning ahead and simplifying your routine can save time, reduce stress, and help you begin your days on a positive note. Practicing a simple morning routine consistently will help you stay organized and less overwhelmed this fall.

Meal Plan

With the change of seasons, I crave new foods. Fall is a great time to spice up your life by changing up your meals and trying new recipes. Hearty soups? An autumn essential. Anything made with squash, pumpkin or yams? Yes, please. Apple crisp? Say no more.

For fall recipes galore, just open up Pinterest and the options are endless. YouTube and TikTok are also the perfect place to find easy recipes that make great leftovers. By finding a few staple meals that you can prepare throughout the season, your life will become a 100 times easier and more organized because grocery shopping and cooking will now be hassle-free and less time consuming.

Buy a New Planner

Planners (or any kind of stationery in general) are a guilty pleasure of mine. I love new journals, agendas, or basically anything that keeps me organized. Planning out your new fall routine and looking forward to the months ahead is a great way to reduce stress. Writing down my weekly tasks helps me prioritize what I need to get done, and boosts my productivity so I can enjoy my free time worry-free and reset at the end of a long week. A new season seems like the perfect time for a new planner, journal or whatever is most functional for you to stay on track and organized.

Try Bullet Journaling

Going right along with all things stationery and organization is bullet journaling. You’ve probably heard of the bullet journal productivity craze while scrolling through Pinterest or TikTok...but what exactly is bullet journaling?

A bullet journal is a notebook that essentially functions as an all-in-one tool for any of your various organizational and creative needs. Think of it as having your planner, diary, wellness journal, to-do lists, random thoughts and goals all in the same place! Bullet journaling is a minimalist’s dream because you don’t have to keep track of a handful of different notebooks and agendas. Bullet journals are completely customizable and you can go as artistic or simplistic as you want when it comes to layout, design and content.

If you’re looking for something affordable to help you organize your hectic life, or you just need a creative outlet to jot things down, bullet journaling is a great tip to get your life together this fall.

Find a New Routine and Stick To It

Life really starts to pick back up and become more fast-paced after summer, so fall is a great season to find a new routine and stick to it. Start by sitting down and contemplating what is essential to your routine. Do you want to workout a specific number of times per week? Do you want to set aside time for self-care, alone time or to hang with friends? Layout a plan and stick with it!

It might take a little bit of time to find your weekly rhythm, but consistency is key. By finding a routine that works for you, your schedule and your body, you’ll feel less stressed and overwhelmed. This will boost your productivity and help you stay organized.
